Such a fucking cliche
Hand embroidered and machine sewn stretch velvet, sequin fabric, and polyfill
I make textile works that tell femme-centric stories. These fiber sculptures and embroidered works are
the residues of heartbreak or a hook-up gone awry. These works are referencing queer histories and cultures and they are speaking to queer womxn. I cite camp, queer theory, and coming of age narratives to recreate my own closeted queer youth.
Oversized notebook pages, complete with manic writing, are torn and strewn about. A black, broken
heart emoji enacts queer tropes, that still sting, no matter how cliche. These works can’t stay together,
torn, and breaking apart from each other. The heartbreak and rejection are palpable within these fiber sculptures and they are exploring larger narratives around queer womxn and coming of age stories within my practice.
